John Wade Coxeter
John Wade Coxeter (1873-1956) of Coxeter and Sons and J. Coxeter and Co
Born Abingdon, 4th September, 1873.
Educated at Cowper Street School, London and at Strand Grammar School.
Studied Engineering with various firms in and near Caterham.
Worked at Abingdon Cycle Factory and at Abingdon Showrooms, Oxford.
Bought first car in 1898 and in 1900 opened Oxford's first Garage.
In 1909 started Motor Car Showroom in Victoria Street, London, this closed down during 1914 war.
During both wars made parts for Aero Engines, Machine Tools etc.
1891 Living at 52 Oak Street, Abingdon: Job Coxeter (age 44 born Abingdon), Iron Merchant and Manufacturer - Employer. With his wife Mary Anne Coxeter (age 49 born Summerstown, Mddx.) and their five children; John Wade Coxeter (age 17 born Abingdon), Iron Monger; Bertram Baker Coxeter (age 16 born Abingdon), Iron Monger; Ernest Jefferies Coxeter (age 12 born Abingdon); Charles Lichfield Coxeter (age 11 born Abingdon); Elsie Mary Coxeter (age 6 born Abingdon). Also his nephew Edwin Geo Bathurst Wadel (age 6 born Highgate, Mddx.). Two servants.[1]
1953 Managing Director of J. Coxeter & Co., Ltd., and of Revolving Centres, Ltd., both of Oxford.
