John Straphen (c1774-1829), otherwise Strachan (1774-1826), mason and contractor

c.1774 Born, nephew of John Simpson (1755-1815)

Builder of Saint Julian's Shrewsbury, Shropshire

After 1804 took over John Simpson's work in Shropshire after he had started working in Scotland.

Responsible for many of the contracts on the Holyhead Road, with John Stanton of Ellesmere and then John Hall

1829 Died at Shrewsbury
