SIR JOHN STOKES, Lieutenant-General R.E. retired, K.C.B., died at his residence, Spring House, Ewell, Surrey, on the 17th November, 1902, after a long and useful career spent in the service of his country.

Born on the 17th June, 1825, he was the second son of the Rev. John Stokes, Vicar of Cobham, Kent.
