1914 'Miss Dorothy A. Smith. daughter of Councillor John Smith, J.P, of the Willows, Milnrow, comes of age today, and in honour of this event the employees at Beal Mills, worked by Messrs. John Smith Ltd.. presented her last night with a handsome dressing case, suitably inscribed. Mr. Albert Sutcliffe. who presided. made some appropriate remarks with reference to the firm, and then Mr. Allred Blackburn made the presentation in a happy little speech. Miss Smith feelingly thanking the workpeople very warmly for their kind present.'[2]
