1943 Obituary [1]
JOHN SHARP, whose death occurred at Hove, Sussex, on 2nd January 1943, in his eighty-ninth year, had been a Member of the Institution since 1897 and was one of its oldest members. He was educated at Marlborough College and in 1872 began an association with the Bolton Iron and Steel Company which lasted for thirty-four years. During this long period, after his initial training, he occupied a responsible position in the management of the works as a director and also as the firm's representative, in which capacity he travelled extensively.
On severing his connection with the Company in 1906, he went into business on his own account, with an office in Westminster, and acted as representative for Messrs. Clifton and Waddell, machine tool makers; but for some years he had been living in retirement at Hove.
