John Robert Vernon Dolphin
1905 Born in Hoole, Cheshire son of Harold Evelyn Dolphin, a metallurgist, and his wife Dorothy
Educated at Marlborough College, and the United Services College
1924-27 Studied at Loughborough College of Engineering.
1928 Apprenticed at the Hydraulic Engineering Co of Chester
1929 Member of the Inst of Mechanical Engineers
1934 Resigned from I Mech E
WWII Commanding officer of Inter-Services Research Station which developed the miniature parachutists' motor cycle (Welbike) and the one-man submarine (Welman).
1951 Chief engineer of Atomic Weapons Research Establishment.
1957-59 Engineer in chief of research division of UKAEA
Became joint managing director of Lansing Bagnall and J. E. Shay
Invented the Corgi motorcycle. He was managing director of the Corgi Motor Cycle Company
1973 Died at age 67 in Henley[1]
