1871 Born in Connah's Quay the son of John Shaw Maudsley (1827-1904) and his wife Mary Fletcher (1829-1914)

1890 Enrolled as student member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers; was studying at the School of Electrical Engineering, 12 Princes St, Hanover Square, London W[1]

1891 A student of electrical and mechanical engineering; living in Horsley, Glos. with his parents; his father was a retired alkali manufacturer[2]

1896 Associate member of the Inst of Electrical Engineers

1899 Married at Barnstaple to Elizabeth Gardner (1868-1950)

1901 Living in Taunton, an electrical engineer, with his wife Elizabeth and one daughter[3]

1904 Member of the I.E.E.

1905 Second daughter born in Taunton

1907 Took over Lister Electrical Machinery Co, which became Mawdsleys.

1911 Living at Lyndhurst, Woodmancote, Dursley: John Herbert St. Hill Mawdsley (age 39 born St Marks Before Connahs Quay), Managing Director - Electrical Engineering. With two daughters; Iris Elizabeth St. Hill Mawdsley (age 11 born Taunton ) and Vera St. Hill Mawdsley (age 6 born Taunton). Two servants. [4]

1934 April 24th. Retired from the company
