John Harvey
John Harvey (1730-1803) of Harveys of Hayle was a Cornishman whose career started as a blacksmith and engineer at Carnhell Green near Hayle, in West Cornwall.
1730 Born the son of William Harvey, a Blacksmith of Illogan and his wife Anne
1756 Married Anne Pearce, a daughter of William Pearce of Grinear
He was a country smith, at Carnhill Green, a small village a few miles from Dolcoath.
c.1775 Carried out worked for Richard Trevithick (Senior) to fix his improved boiler in its house
Discovered how to cast iron pipes.
1779 he established a foundry and engineering works at Hayle called Harveys of Hayle
John had four daughters and four sons. Two sons died through illness and in 1780 the third son aged 22 died in an accident at the foundry. His remaining son Henry Harvey took over the business
