JOHN EDNIE was born at Dundee on 30th August 1877.
He was educated at the Normal College, Aberdeen, and at Robert Gordon's College in the same city.
He served an apprenticeship of six years with Messrs. James Abernethy and Co., Aberdeen, from 1892 to 1898, going through the fitting, turning, and pattern-making shops and the foundry.
In 1898 he joined the Aberdeen White Star Line as junior engineer, and in 1904 was promoted to be refrigerating engineer.
In the following year he went out to Sarawak as mechanical engineer to the Borneo Co., and had charge of the maintenance of the machinery in the mines.
In 1906 he became mechanical and electrical engineer of the Cawnpore Woollen Mills, and supervised the erection of machinery for the woollen mills belonging to the Amir of Afghanistan.
He was also appointed an examining engineer and chairman of the United Provinces Boiler Board for the granting of engineering certificates.
His death took place at Cawnpore on 17th February 1914, in his thirty-seventh year.
He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1908.
