JOHN CECIL WARD received his engineering training at the University of Sheffield and King's College, London, and at the works of Messrs. Harland and Wolff, Belfast.

After spending a period with Messrs. Hadfields, of Sheffield, he was appointed in 1896 London representative of Messrs. Edgar Allen and Company. He became a director in 1908, and continued to be a member of the board of directors until his death on 8th August 1929, at the age of 59.

On behalf of his firm Mr. Ward had visited China, Japan, Manchuria. Korea, Canada, United States, South Africa, India, Burma, Ceylon, Straits Settlements, Malay States, France, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Germany, Italy, and Belgium. Mr. Ward took an active part in the municipal life of the City of Sheffield.

He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1897.
