Founded John Abbot and Co of Park Iron Works, Gateshead.
1863 July 18th. Died. At his residence, Saville Place, on the 18th inst., aged 79, John Abbot, Esq.[1] 'Funeral of John Abbot, Esq.— Yesterday, at noon, the funeral of this gentleman took place. The procession consisted of a hearse and three mourning coaches, containing the relatives and friends the deceased. The private carriage of his family followed, as also the carriages of the Mayor, J. Morrison, Esq., A. M'Leod, Esq., and J. A. Hymere, Esq. About 600 men from the works of Messrs. Abbot and Co., Gateshead, also accompanied the remains of their late master to their last resting-place. The procession moved from the house in Saville Place, and proceeded to Jesmond Cemetery, where the coffin was deposited in a new vault....'[2]
