JAMES WADDELL BOYD MACLAREN, born on the 14th April, 1863, at Edinburgh, died there on the 21st September, 1910.
Trained under Messrs. Carfrae and Belfrage, of Edinburgh, he was subsequently employed under Mr. John Strain.
In 1888 he went out to Singapore, and afterwards became partner in the firm of Swan and Maclaren, being responsible for railway and gold-field surveys, and for a number of public buildings in Singapore and elsewhere.
He was employed in the Tanjong Pagar arbitration and in other important cases.
Mr. Maclaren was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 4th December, 1888, and was transferred to the class of Member on the 22nd March, 1898.
