JAMES SCATTERGOOD, of West Bromwich, whose death occurred on December 26, 1908, was for a quarter of a century manager of the Stour Valley Works, now owned by Guest, Keen, & Nettlefolds, Ltd.

Originally a school teacher, he entered the Stour Valley Works as a clerk, and rose to the position of manager.

In 1875 he gave evidence before the Royal Commission on Factory and Workshops Acts, where his services were of great value. He was a Fellow of the Imperial Institute, and was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1872.
