James Merry
James Merry (1805-1876), ironmaster of Merry and Cuninghame
Prominent in the sporting world - winner of the Derby.
Member of the House of Commons.
1876 "... James Merry, Esq., of Belladrum, in the county of Inverness, and of No. 68, Eaton square, London, ceased, as on the 15th day of May, 1876 to have any interest in the Companies carrying on business as Iron and Coal Masters, in Glasgow, and at Carnbroe, Glengarnock, Ardeer, and elsewhere, under the names and firms of Merry and Cuninghame, and the Glengarnock Iron Company.[1]

DEATH OF MR. JAMES MERRY.—This gentleman, one of the most widely-known of the Scotch ironmasters, died in London on February 3rd.
He was a partner in the firm of Merry and Cuninghame, ironmasters, and between 1859 and 1874, was M.P. for the Falkirk Burghs.
He was born in 1805. and at an early period of life he followed the same business as his father, Mr. Jas. Merry - that of a coalmaster. To this he added that of an ironmaster, and entered into partnership with Mr. Cuninghame, of Craigend.
Mr. Merry was the owner of several of our best English race horses, and was a liberal patron of the turf.
