1911 Obituary [1]

JAMES HENRY BARBER died on October 2, 1911. At the outset of his career he held a position in the Accountant's Office at Manchester of the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Railway, and early in the seventies he entered the service of Messrs. Brown, Bayley & Dixon, of Sheffield, as chief accountant. On the incorporation of the firm as a limited company he was appointed secretary.

He then became manager and secretary of the company under its new title of Brown, Bayley's Steelworks, Limited, and finally undertook the position of managing director while still continuing to act as secretary. He retired from active work about the end of 1909, but retained his seat on the board up to the date of his death. Mr. Barber was universally esteemed and respected by his staff and workmen, and by his fellow-citizens.

He was a member of the Cutlers' Company, and was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1879.
