1881 Listed as a Bicycle Maker at at 35 Union Street, Plymouth.[2]
1881 Bankrupt. '...Liquidation by Arrangement or Composition with Creditors, instituted by James Beach, of the Steam Bicycle and Engineering Works, 39, Union-street and Station-road, Plymouth, in the county of Devon, Bicycle Manufacturer and Machinist....'[3]
1891 Listed as a Cycle Manufacturer in Taunton.[4]
1901 Living at St James Street, Taunton: James Beach (age 56 born Monmouth), Civil Engineer. With his wife Emma M. Beach (age 52 born Monmouth) and their three children; Lilian Beach (age 26 born Coleford, Glos.); Samuel J. Beach (age 23 born Plymouth), Civil Engineer; and Margarette Beach (age 15 born Taunton).[5]

With his children Lilian Beach (age 36 born Coleford, Glos.) and Percy Beach (age 31 born Plymouth), Automobile and General Engineer. Also his grandson Eddie Beach (age 9 born Marylebone).
