1856 Advert: 'I THE undersigned, ISAAC BEST, Hereby Give Notice that the PARTNERSHIP hitherto existing and carried on under the Firm or style of ISAAC BEST and ADAM BEST, as Engineers, is DISSOLVED; and I Hereby Further Give Notice that I have no connection with the said Adam Best, and shall not be responsible for any Debt or Debts he may contract in the name of Isaac Best and Adam Best — Dated this 18th day of April, - ISAAC x BEST his mark.'[1]

1856 Sale notice: 'By Mr. WILLIAM LOMAX, Jun., on Monday, the 21st day of April, 1856, on the Premises occupied by Mr. Isaac Best, Engineer, situate opposite Mr. Gregson’s Mill, High-street, top of Derby-street, Great Bolton, in the County of Lancaster, THE MACHINERY and EFEECTS upon the Premises, consisting of one High-pressure Steam Engine, one and a half horse power, and Steam Boiler; one 11-inch single speed Lathe; one 7-inch back-geared Lathe; one 6-inch Lathe; Gantrees; Fluting Machine for Taps; three Vices and Benches; Turning Tools, Taps, and Dies; Smiths’ Bellows ; two Tue-irons and Troughs; Smiths’ Tools; large Hammer : Anvil; Swage Block; large Grindstone and Frame, with a variety of other Effects upon the premises.—The Sale to commence at Two o’clock in the Afternoon.'[2]

1863 'Notice is hereby given, that the PARTNERSHIP (if any) subsisting between us the Undersigned, carrying on business as Engineers and Tool Makers, at Retreat-place, Hanover-street, Great Bolton, under the style of "Isaac and Adam Best," is this day DISSOLVED by mutual consent. All debts due to and owing by the said Partnership will be received and paid by the said Adam Best, by whom the business will in future be carried on. Dated this day of January. 1863.
