1904 Public company. The company was registered on 27 June, to acquire certain patent rights. [1]
1908 Demonstration of patent core for furnace developed by Alfred Smallwood, with testimony from several major industrial users of the furnaces as to the economy of fuel achieved[2].

1965 Wellman, Smith, Owen Engineering Corporation changed its name to Wellman Engineering; the business was divided into 5 major groups including Wellman Incandescent Furnace Co which concentrated on the thermal engineering activities of the company[13].
1967 Wellman Incandescent Natural Gas Systems was formed which could call on other parts of the Wellman Group, specifically Incandescent Heat Co, W. S. O. Furnaces, Brayshaw Furnaces, Controlled Heat and Air, Manchester Furnace Co, Selas Gas and Engineering Co[14].
