"HUGH JOHN SHERYER was associated with the Royal Ordnance Factories, Woolwich, during the whole of his working life, commencing his apprenticeship there in September 1918. On completion of his practical and theoretical training in 1924, he entered the drawing office and later became technical assistant to the assistant mechanical engineer (services). In 1930 he joined the shop supervisory staff of the power distribution section of the engineering department, reaching, in 1939, his final position of shop manager, in charge of the power generation and distribution sections.
Later the management of the Royal Gas Factory and the electricity generating station also became his responsibility. Shortly before his untimely death, on 27th October 1949, in his forty-seventh year, he had been promoted to the post of Engineer II at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, but did not survive to take up the appointment. Mr. Sheryer was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1930, and was transferred to Associate Membership ten years later."
