Henry Seddon (1881-1947)

1947 Obituary [1]

"HENRY SEDDON, whose death occurred on 11th February 1947, had held the position of technical representative for Messrs. Mather and Platt, in Manchester, for over twenty years.

He was born at Pendleton in 1881, and received his education at the Royal Technical Institute, Salford, and also took the mechanical engineering course of the City and Guilds Institute, gaining honours. On the completion of a five years' apprenticeship with Sir James Farmer and Sons, Ltd., of Salford, in 1902, he continued in the service of that firm as a draughtsman, for another year.

After filling similar engagements with Messrs. J. H. Riley and Company, Ltd., of Bury, and Messrs. Mather and Platt, with whom he remained for four years, he was appointed chief draughtsman to Sir James Farmer and Company, but in 1914 he returned to Messrs. Mather and Platt to take charge of the textile department's drawing office, and later occupied the same position in the chemical engineering branch. From 1919 to 1926 he was constructional engineer to the British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., at Huddersfield. He then renewed his former association with Messrs. Mather and Platt, on his taking up his final appointment as their technical representative. Mr. Seddon had been a Member of the Institution since 1920."
