"HENRY GEOFFREY BROADBENT, M.A., whose death occurred at Eggleston, Yorkshire, on 26th April 1949, was for a number of years an assistant master and head of the engineering side at Shrewsbury School.
He was born at Diss, Norfolk, in 1888, and on leaving Uppingham School in 1906 served a three years' apprenticeship with Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth and Company, Ltd., and concurrently attended classes at the Manchester Municipal College of Technology.
He continued his education at Queen's College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1914, proceeding later to the degree of M.A. After acting as science master at St. Bee's School, Cumberland, for four years, he was commissioned in the Royal Engineers with the rank of lieutenant and was attached to the first Bridging Battalion. On demobilization in 1919 he began his connexion with Shrewsbury School, where he remained to the end of his active career. He was a keen collector of pictures and china and made a bequest of part of his collection to the Museum in Norwich, in which city he was resident for some years, and for which he had a great affection. Mr. Broadbent had been an Associate of the Institution since 1928."
