HENRY CARD, born on the 14th October, 1818, died at Lewes on the 27th November, 1914, at the advanced age of 96, having resided in Sussex all his life.
After gaining an extensive practical knowledge of the building trades, he was associated from 1848 with Mr. John Cowper, then County Surveyor of Sussex; and after discharging like duties under the County Magistrates for several years after Mr. Cowper's retirement, he was appointed in 1858 Surveyor to the Eastern Division of the County, an office which he held for nearly 48 years. He was responsible for all main roads and bridges in the division, and for various public works, and in addition he carried on independent practice as an Architect and Surveyor.
Mr. Card was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 13th January, 1885.
