Henry Blackwell was born in 1905, and following his technical education at various schools in Derby, he passed the examination of the Northern Universities Joint Matriculation Board.

From 1929 to 1932 he was a Pupil with John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., and remained with that firm until 1934, when he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Transport at the Leeds Depot of the Cleveland Petroleum Products Co., Ltd., being promoted to Superintendent later in the same year.

He died on 12th September, 1935, at the age of 30.

He was elected a Post-Graduate in 1932.
