"HENRY BARSTOW was for many years general manager for Messrs. Ormerod, Grierson and Company, Ltd., Radcliffe, Lancs, with whom he had been connected since 1890.

He was born at Bradford in 1862 and educated at Hipperholme Grammar School, and continued his studies from 1872 to 1878 at Neu Strelitz in Germany. During his apprenticeship with Messrs. De Bergue and Company, Ltd., Manchester, from 1878 to 1884, he attended the Manchester Mechanics' Institute. Subsequently he was appointed a draughtsman with Messrs. G. Saxon, Ltd., Manchester, and later joined Messrs. Scott and Hodgson, Ltd., Guide Bridge, Manchester, in a similar capacity. It was from this firm that Mr. Barstow went to Messrs. Ormerod, Grierson and Company, Ltd., occupying the position of works manager in 1896 and later becoming general manager. He had at one time his own engineering business and traded under the name of Messrs. Marriott and Barsdorf, Dawsons Croft Mills, Greengate, Salford. Mr. Barstow was elected a Member of the Institution in 1912, and died on 11th January 1939."
