"HENRY ARTHUR BOULTBEE, who was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1907, was a lecturer of engineering for most of his professional career. He was educated at Sheffield University College, where he obtained the diploma in engineering. On the termination of a six years' apprenticeship with Messrs. Hawksley Wild and Company, Ltd., of Sheffield, in 1902, he was employed as an engine fitter by Messrs. Amos and Smith, of Hull, for a brief period.
From 1903 to 1906 he sailed in ships of the Wilson Line, Hull, and during this period he obtained his Board of Trade Extra First-Class Engineer's Certificate. He then began his career as a teacher, his first appointment being that of lecturer in engineering at Darlington Technical College, which was followed two years later by a similar post at Birmingham. In 1911 he became senior lecturer at Rutherford College, Newcastle upon Tyne, and from 1913 to 1915 he was head of the engineering department at Ashford, Kent, Technical School. During the next three years he was with Messrs. Cammell Laird and Company, Ltd., at Sheffield and Nottingham, for whom he was first engaged on shell production and later as chief of the testing and research department. After acting as works manager to Messrs. Arthur Lee and Sons Ltd., steel manufacturers, of Sheffield, for a few months, he was appointed senior lecturer in engineering by the Glamorgan Education Committee, a position he retained until 1940 when he was attached to the Ministry of Aircraft Production as senior production officer, later being transferred to the Ministry of Production as Regional Technical Adviser. Mr. Boultbee's death occurred on 1st May 1946 in his sixty-fifth year."
