HENRI MENIER was born on the 14th July 1853.
He was educated at the Lycee Bonaparte, where he took the degree of Bachelor of Science and, later, the diploma of Military Engineer.
He was, with his brother, joint manager of the Monier Chocolate Works at Noisiel (France), where be made, in 1875, the first application of transmission of electricity for power and lighting.
He was also managing director of the Menier India Rubber and Telegraphic Cable Works, and manufacturer of the first submarine cable in France, in which direction he made many new applications.
His death took place near Paris on the 6th September 1913, at the age of sixty.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1878.
