Harry Edward Steel was born in 1870.

He was interested in motoring in its earliest days and founded the firm of H. E. Steel, Ltd., of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester and Stroud, with which he was connected for twenty years.

In 1925 he started the Queen's Garage, Cheltenham, and was, in addition, a Consulting Engineer.

He died in April, 1941, at the age of 71.

He was elected a Member in 1936.
