HAROLD HEAPE was born on December 21, 1896, and was educated at Burton Grammar School.
Mr. Heape enlisted in May 1915 as a private in the Royal Fusiliers, transferred to the Royal Engineers, and drafted to France in September of the same year. He was gassed, and later slightly wounded. After passing through all ranks, Mr. Heape was granted a commission in the Notts and Derby Regiment.
On demobilization, Mr. Heape proceeded to Birmingham University, where he graduated B.Sc. (Met.) in 1921, and M.Sc. in 1923. After doing research work for the British Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association, he joined the staff of the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., Trafford Park, Manchester.
He resigned his position in July 1926 to join the staff of the British Engine, Boiler and Electrical Insurance Co., Manchester.
He was taken suddenly ill while at work oil December 10, 1926, and was removed to the Manchester Ear Hospital, where he died on February 7, 1927, from an acute mastoid.
Mr. Heape was elected a Student Member of the Institute of Metals on December 30, 1920, and was transferred to full membership on July 1, 1923.
