H. Strawson MA AFRAeS Member is a Senior Scientist at Thornton Research Centre. After graduating in Mechanical Sciences at Cambridge, he was engaged in both design and development of gas turbines with the Aero Engine Division of the Bristol Aeroplane Co.

In 1950 he joined Shell (now Shell Research Ltd) and has since carried out research into many aspects of the performance and handling of liquid fuels. For some years he has headed a group in which the investigations have included the electrostatic hazards which can arise during the handling of petroleum products.
