GUSTAV SCHULZ died in April at Wiesbaden, at the age of 59.
Until recently he resided at Bochum, where in 1870 he founded the coal distilling works which have now attained to considerable importance. He rendered great services to the coal trade of Westphalia by his energetic efforts to bring about a reduction in railway rates, especially for coal and iron. On this subject he published several important works. H
e was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1884.
