1844 The business was founded by Godfrey Phillips (1826-1900), an 18 year old entrepreneur. It was one of the first tobacco companies to issue cigarette cards. The first set was published in 1904 and featured anonymous pin-up girls.

1908 Limited company formed.[1] The first directors were the partners- Joseph Phillips, chairman, Philip Phillips, David Phillips, Spencer Phillips and Arthur Phillips.[2]

1909 Joseph Phillips, Philip Phillips, and David Phillips, of the firm of Messrs. Godfrey, Phillips, and Co., tobacco manufacturers.[3]

1914 Manufacturers of Tobacco, Cigarettes, and Cigars, 112, Commercial Street. Bonded Factory: 60 and 62, Commercial Street, London, E. Established in 1844 by Godfrey Phillips. Business: Manufacture of Tobaccos, Cigars, and Cigarettes.

1962 Held 53rd AGM. Mr. P. A. Godfrey Phillips is Chairman.[4]

1968 acquired by Philip Morris
