From Graces Guide

George Herman Babcock (June 17, 1832 – December 16, 1893) of Babcock and Wilcox Co was an American inventor.

1880 George Herman Babcock, Stephen Wilcox and Nathaniel Pratt co-invented and patented a safer water tube steam boiler.

Babcock's water tube steam boiler provided a safer and more efficient production of steam, and was built to work better under higher pressures than earlier boilers.

1881 their company, Babcock and Wilcox, was incorporated, with Babcock as president and Wilcox as vice-president.

1997 Babcock was inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame.
