GEORGE DAWSON THOMSON was born in 1885 and was educated in Aberdeen.

In 1902 at the age of 17 he became apprentice to a coach-builder of Aberdeen and from 1906 to 1907 was a Hooper scholar at the London Polytechnic.

Subsequently he worked for five years as a coach designer at Messrs. Mulliners and the Austin Motor Company, both of Birmingham.

In 1913 he went to Toronto as superintendent of construction for the Conboy Carriage Company, and from 1917 to 1919 he held the same position with Messrs. Carriage Factories.

He then returned to England to join the Blackburn Aeroplane and Motor Company as works manager of the Leeds factory, and in 1922 he became general works manager of the firm's factories at Leeds and at Brough. This position he held until his death on 9th March 1929.

Mr. Thomson became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923.
