George Bown from Stevenage, Hertfordshire broke the world record for the 1000cc standing start over 1km on his Vincent Special, 994cc. The record took place at the two-mile runway at the Royal Aircraft establishment, Bedford. His average speed was 108.74 mph which is 2mph faster than the previos record.
