GEORGE BLYTHE CUTHBERT, born on the 21st February, 1855, died at Stutterheim, South Africa, on the 19th November, 1911.

Obtaining his early training in railway and mechanical works in this country, he obtained a position on the Cape Government Railways in 1881.

After 5 years, from 1886, on survey and other work in Western Australia, he returned to South Africa, re-entering the public service, constructed several large bridges and carried out surveys and other works, until his health failed in 1911.

Mr. Cuthbert was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 2nd December, 1890.
