GEORGE ALBERT RYDER, whose death in his seventy-sixth year occurred on 10th December 1951 was a managing director of Thomas Ryder and Son, Ltd., Bolton, machine-tool makers, and had been associated with the family firm for almost sixty years, including his apprenticeship which he began in 1892.
He was educated at Bolton Grammar and Giggleswick Schools, and on the completion of his practical training in 1895 was admitted to partnership and entrusted with the inside management of the business at the early age of nineteen. Shortly afterwards he became responsible for the entire technical management.
Mr. Ryder was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1901 and transferred to Membership three years later.
