Mr. Nonhebel was educated at Lancing College, Sussex, and Balliol College, Oxford. After two years as chemistry demonstrator at Leeds University, he joined the Billingham works of Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd. in 1927. Most of his experience there was on works and research problems on fuel and water. He was gas and power associate research manager from 1936-47 when he took up his present position in I.C.I. head office chemical engineering services.

He was appointed a member of the Government Committee on Air Pollution in 1953.
