Machine for producing lenses at London Science Museum

Makers of contact lenses and lathes for machining contact lenses.

Established by George Nissel (1913-1982), who was born in Transylvania.[1]

1946 George Nissel went into partnership with George Grimes, who had previously serviced the machines that Nissel used during his work, and started production of lathes for machining contact lenses. Their premises were in Siddons Lane, London. [2]

2000 Nissel Ltd was acquired by David Cantor, and is now named Cantor and Nissel Ltd, based in Brackley, Northants. Cantor & Nissel website.
