FREDERICK WALTER PRESTON died on May 16, 1913, at the age of seventy-eight.
He was born in London, and in his youth became apprenticed to Mr. H. S. Blackwell, at that time the largest ironmaster in South Staffordshire.
In 1869 he joined the late Mr. C. H. Plevins and managed the Heywood furnaces, near Weedon, and subsequently he, with the late Mr. H. Sartoris, built in 1877 the furnaces of the Kettering Iron and Coal Company.
Owing to advancing years he retired from the business in 1907, when the management was taken over by his son, Mr. H. J. Preston.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1889.
