"FREDERICK REGINALD ROGERS, Wh.Ex., was identified with technical education during the whole of his professional career, and had held the position of Principal of Birkenhead Technical College since 1935.
He served his apprenticeship from 1901 to 1907 at H.M. Dockyard, Devonport, and concurrently attended classes at the local Technical School, winning a Whitworth Exhibition in 1906. After a three-year course of instruction at the Royal College of Science, London, where he obtained an Associateship, he began his forty years' connection with teaching by his appointment at the early age of twenty-four as head of the engineering department of the St. Helens Municipal Technical College.
During his tenure of this post, from 1910 to 1919, he was responsible for the organization of a five-year engineering course, in addition to supervising numerous lectures and the equipment of the laboratory. On the conclusion of a short engagement as lecturer in marine engineering and head of that department at Cardiff Technical College, he went to Birkenhead as vice-principal and head of the engineering department. He continued in this work until he finally became principal. Mr. Rogers, whose death in his sixty-fifth year occurred on 22nd May 1951, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1928."
