FREDERICK ARTHUR ATKINSON was born at Gloucester on 20th February 1867.
His education was received at Gloucester, where he commenced his engineering training in 1881 in the works of the Gloucester Wagon Co.
Having passed through the shops and drawing-office, he entered in 1885 the service of Messrs. McKenzie and Holland, railway signal engineers, of Worcester, as one of their leading draughtsmen, and in 1888 he was appointed chief draughtsman to Messrs. Dutton and Co., railway signal engineers, of the same city.
Seven years later he transferred his services to Messrs. Evans, O'Donnell and Co., of Westminster, for whom he acted as manager, carrying out large railway-signal contracts.
His death took place, after a severe illness, at his residence in Upper Norwood, London, on 24th April 1910, at the age of forty-three.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1900.
