1839 Born in Huddersfield, son of James Bowman, bank manager[1]

1851 Living in Halifax

Educated at Edinburgh University, in mechanical engineering.

Apprenticed with William Illingworth and Co of Halifax

1866 Manager of a factory; married Sarah Hodgson at Mytholmroyd[2]

1871 Frederic H Bowman 31, master cotton spinner, employing 70 men, 52 women, 53 young persons male, 53 young persons female, 25 boys, 16 girls (total 269), lived in Halifax with his sister Jane Bowman 27, John H Bowman 3, James M Bowman 9 Months[3]

1872 Married Clara Hurst Eastwood[4]

Experience in erecting worsted and cotton mills in Yorkshire and chemical works. Also involved in construction of railways and electrical engineering works.

1881 Fredric H. Bowman 41, master spinner employing 697 hands, lived in Halifax with Clara H. Bowman 36, F.E. Bowman 8, Ada St. Clare Bowman 5, Annie G. Bowman 4, Constance S. Bowman 1, Francis C. Bowman 4 days[5]

1887 of West Mount, Halifax, when became an Associate member of Institution of Civil Engineers; he was head of a large firm employing 1000 hands and was director of various companies.

1891 Frederick H Bowman 57, master cotton spinner, D.Sc., employer, lived in Halifax with Clara H Bowman 47, James M Bowman 20, Frederic E Bowman 18, Annie G Bowman 14, Constance L Bowman 11, Francis C Bowman 10[6]

1892 Became an Associate member of I Mech E; of Union Mills, Halifax; he was both a cotton spinner and a chemical manufacturer.

1894 His wife, Clara, of Bowdon, Cheshire, died; Frederic was a chemical manufacturer[7]

1896 of Mayfield, Knutsford.

1900 Director of Chloride Electrical Storage Syndicate

1911 Consulting Engineer, widower, working in all areas of engineering and the chemical industry, boarding in Barton upon Irwell[8]

1918 of Whitworth Park, Manchester.

1919 Resigned from I Mech E.

1925 Died in South Manchester
