Francis Mewburn
Francis Mewburn (1785-1867)
1809 Set up as a solicitor in Darlington and was responsible for seeing the Stockton and Darlington Railway Bill through Parliament. He became clerk to the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company and was responsible for a number of railway bills.
1846 Appointed Chief Bailiff of Darlington
1850 Became a member of the first Local Board of Health
1866 He wrote 'I was the first solicitor on the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Mr Raisbeck of Stockton was united with me but I did all the work and he took half my bills which I rendered to the company' [1]
Buried (with Memorial) in Darlington West Cemetery
