FRANCIS ALBERT BENNETT was in the service of Simon Carves, Ltd., Stockport, general engineers, from 1906 until his death, which occurred on 19th June 1951. He was born in 1879 at Blaenavon, Mon., and received his education at West Bromwich Technical Institute. After serving his apprenticeship in the iron and steel works of the Blaenavon Company, Ltd., from 1894 to 1902, he gained experience as a junior in the drawing offices of C. Akrill and Company, Ltd., West Bromwich, and Richardson, Westgarth and Company, Ltd., Middlesbrough. He then began his long connection with Simon-Carves Ltd., and after being employed in a similar capacity for five years was promoted to be chief draughtsman in the coke oven and recovery plant department. He was transferred to the boiler department (later the power-plant department) in 1925, where he carried out similar duties until 1936 when he became chief engineer of the same department. He retired in 1948. Mr. Bennett had been a Member of the Institution since 1938."
