Mr F. J. Everest, M.Sc.(Eng.) (Member) was educated at Rugby School, Rugby College of Technology, and the City and Guilds Engineering College, London, where he obtained his B.Sc. He was awarded an M.Sc. for postgraduate research on the ventilation and cooling of machines and he also obtained the Diploma of Imperial College, London.

He served his apprenticeship with British Thomson Houston and, in 1931, won a B.T.H. fellowship to the U.S.A. where he worked at General Electric on the design of steam and hydroelectric power stations and railway electrification.

In 1932 he returned to the Company as an Industrial Engineer working on the design and layout of plant.

Nine years later he joined David Brown, Huddersfield, as Assistant Chief Engineer, being promoted to Chief Engineer in 1944, Manager of Park Gear Works in 1951 and Director and General Manager of the Industrial Gear Divisions in 1956.

He has held his present post as Managing Director of Vickers Sperry Rand Ltd since 1961.

Mr Everest became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1942 transferring to Member in 1946. He is the author of several papers on transmission and production subjects.
