Ernest William Hatfield was born in 1873.

He received his technical education at Sheffield Technical School and was apprenticed to the firm of Hattersley and Davidson, of Sheffield, where he occupied various positions subsequently and eventually became a Partner and Director.

The firm of Hattersley and Davidson, Ltd., became known as the H. and B. Auto. Co. and was completely taken over by him. At the time of his death he had been with the firm for 35 years.

He died on 1st November, 1940, at the age of 65.

He was elected a Member in 1911.
