Eldridge Pope was a traditional brewery situated in Dorchester, Dorset in England. Brewers of Eldridge Pope Beer.
1837 The Green Dragon Brewery was established by Charles and Sarah Eldridge.
1880 The brewery moved to its site in Dorchester and Edwin and Alfred Pope acquired shares in the company.
1881 The brewery opened.
1897 The company was registered, to take over the brewery business of the firm of the same name.
1960-70s Royal Oak and Hardy's Ale were two of the real ales brewed by Denis Edwin Holliday, Head Brewer of Eldridge Pope.
1968 The company became well known for the Thomas Hardy Ale that was first brewed to commemorate the author.
1997 The Pope Family ran the business until a management buyout.
2003 Following a series of calamitous business decisions, the brewery closed in July.
2007 In January/February EP Ltd, as it is now known, was sold to Marstons as an entire entity.
2008 The company's best-known brands are now brewed under licence by Dorset and Devon-based micro-breweries.
