1871 Living in St Pancras with his mother, Emma, 34, a widow, and his brother George, 13[2]
1881 Articled to an architect, living with his uncle Robert, a Telegraph engineer, employer of 26 men and 2 boys, in Islington[3].
1901 Electrical engineer, employer, lived in Lewisham with Edith Reid 33[4]

EDWIN J. REID was educated at University College School, London, and was trained for 4 years as an architect and engineer.
He then joined the engineering staff of Messrs. Reid Brothers and was engaged on telegraph and electrical installation work.
In 1923 he became chairman of this company. Subsequently he became electrical engineer to Messrs. Phoenix Telephone and Engineering Works, Ltd., at Hendon.
He died at Bexleyheath on the 17th May, 1929, at the age of 65.
He joined the Institution as a Member in 1893.
