"EDWARD RICHARDS, who was born in 1905, was educated at the Colchester Technical College, where in three successive years he won a scholarship.
After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Robert Warner and Company, Ltd., general engineers, of Walton on the Naze, from 1919 to 1924, he gained experience as an improver to Messrs. Fitch and Sons, motor engineers, of Clacton, and as fitter to the District Motor Omnibus Company, Ltd.
He was then appointed depot engineer to the Silver Queen Motor Omnibus Company, Ltd., of Grantham. In 1928 he obtained a similar post in the same town with the Lincolnshire Road Car Company, Ltd., and four years later was appointed chief engineer, at Lincoln, with responsibility for the maintenance of some 260 vehicles, and control of the staff. More recently he had been assistant engineer to the Eastern National Omnibus Company, Ltd. Mr. Richards was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1936. His death occurred at Chelmsford on 30th May 1949."
