EDWARD GEORGE WALKER, B.Sc.(Eng.), who was born on 15 December, 1886, died on 7 April, 1957.
He studied at the City and Guilds College, London, from 1900 to 1904. Between 1904 and 1909 he gained experience as draughtsman, engineering assistant, designer, and estimator with various organizations. He joined the North Eastern Railway Co. in 1909 as an Assistant in the Docks Engineer’s department and remained there until 1915.
In the First World War hew as a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and was attached to the Royal Naval Air Service as a technical assistant, later joining the Royal Air Force as a Staff Captain. He was retained for 2 years after the war as a consultant by the Air Ministry.
Mr Walker went into private practice as a consulting engineer 1919 and in 1926 he joined Maxted and Knott, consulting engineers, as a partner, becoming Principal in 1930. He was responsible for the design and construction of many important cement and industrial plants and he reported on cement propositions in Great Britain Malaya, Syria, and Palestine. He had special experience in the design and manufacture of pre-cast cement components, particularly for tunnel linings.
